Role Overview
As Embedded Software Engineer you write the software that runs the bike: The firmware of its control units and the embedded Linux platform behind its connected features.
You have the opportunity to take a product through its entire life, from the very first power-on on the lab
bench, through test rides on the bike, to the production line and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
Embedded Software for the Bike
- Turn system requirements into embedded software designs and help build a robust architecture across the bike’s control units
- Implement system-level functions in C/C++
- Build the foundations of a connected, always-online bike: Low-power modes and wake-up, secure over-the-air updates, Bluetooth links to phone and more
Bring-up, Integration & Debugging
- Bring up new boards and component from first power-on in the lab to the complete bike
- Integrate supplier systems such as drive unit, battery and others over CAN and validate their interfaces
- Track down faults across software, electronics and wiring
Quality & Testing
- Keep the codebase maintainable through reviews, refactoring, unit tests and documentation
- Automate firmware integration tests on test benches and hardware-in-the-loop setups
- Support validation, EMC and homologation testing
Path to Production
- Develop test scripts, end-of-line tests and flashing for series production
- Support our manufacturing partner during production ramp-up
Working Across Teams
- Work hand in hand with hardware, system engineering, app and backend teams
- Collaborate with development partners and suppliers
Profile & Experience
Qualification
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering or similar
- At least five years of hands-on embedded development in C/C++, ideally in automotive, e-mobility or other series-produced products
Experience
- Experience building distributed systems with multiple microcontrollers and low power designs
- Solid knowledge of embedded Linux and of real-time operating systems such as Zephyr
- Comfortable at the lab bench, whether reading schematics, debugging with an oscilloscope and logic analyzer, or picking up the soldering iron
- A plus: CAN, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular and GNSS, secure boot, bootloader
Mindset
- Takes initiative and drives topics to a solution
- Enjoys working in interdisciplinary teams
- Thrives in fast-moving, early-stage product development
- Enjoys finding root causes in complex interdisciplinary systems
What Makes This Role Unique
Central role connecting quality, testing, and engineering across the entire product.
Opportunity to shape quality, validation, and problem-solving processes from the ground up.
Broad exposure across mechanical, electrical, software, connectivity and system integration – rather than ownership of a single component.
High impact on product reliability, compliance, and launch readiness.
A hands-on role where you will work directly with prototypes and real product issues, not just manage processes from a distance.
